Maserati unveils MC Edition special models

MODENA based Maserati has announced special MC (Maserati Corse) Edition versions of its Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante models it says celebrate the Italian firm’s “uncompromising performance and racing spirit”.

Available only on V8-powered versions of the three models, the MC Edition treatment offers two exclusive three-layer paints – Giallo Corse and Blu Vittoria – in celebration of the marque’s hometown flag, as well as piano black detailing, unique rear-wing and B-pillar badges, blue-painted brake calipers and gloss black alloy wheels (21-inch on Ghibli and Quattroporte; 22-inch on Levante).

Inside, each model’s cabin is garnished with blue carbon-fibre elements on the door cards and centre consoles, while blue and yellow stitching adorns the upholstery. Each vehicle features Nero Pienofiore black leather trim with contrasting denim inlays on the seats and Maserati MC Edition logos on the head restraints and centre console.

Technology additions include an electric sunroof, a premium Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound audio system, and a Driver Assistance Package.

“MC stands for Maserati Corse: a sporty nature, fostered on the track for everyday competition. The new MC Edition celebrates Maserati's uncompromising performance and racing spirit,” Masearti said in a statement.

“Victories, trophies, legendary cars and drivers: the world of racing immediately comes to mind when thinking of the Trident Brand, here paying tribute to its glorious history.”

Mechanically, the three cars are unchanged with each retaining its Ferrari-sourced 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8.

For Ghibli variants, the M161A-series engine outputs 427kW at 6750rpm and 730Nm from 2250-5250rpm. The four-door model can accelerate to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 326km/h.

In the Quattroporte, the same mill provides slightly more power with 433kW at 6750rpm. Its torque value is unchanged. Maserati says the V8-powered four-door will accelerate from standstill to triple figures in 4.5 seconds, the model sharing the Ghibli’s top speed of 326km/h.

Finally, for the sole SUV entrant in the Maserati range, we find the Levante matching the power and torque figures of the Quattroporte. The family-friendly supercar can hit 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds and boasts a v-max of 302km/h.

Pricing for all three variants is yet to be confirmed, but Maserati says its new Maserati MC Editions are available to order now.
