NEW brand entry Cupra has announced competitive prices for its high-spec range that opens with the Leon hatch at $43,990 (plus on-road costs) through to the Formentor crossover at $50,690 plus ORCs and the performance-focused Ateca SUV from $60,990, again plus on-road costs.
Cupra, pronounced ‘coo-pra’ and the second Spanish member of the Volkswagen Group after Seat, promotes its newcomers as being highly specified with minimal options and available with drive-away sticker prices (see below).
Orders will start in June with the initial three models with more coming, including two plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars.
Cupra Australia head of product and planning, Jeff Shafer, said: “The desirability of our three-model, highly specified Cupra range is now matched by driveaway pricing that offers great value plus a complimentary three-year servicing offer and a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.
“From $43,990 plus on-road costs through to a maximum $66,990 driveaway, our trio of Leon hatchback, Formentor crossover and Ateca SUV offer exactly what modern Australians are looking for – all sharing key performance, technology and design DNA.”
Cupra Australia will progressively launch the Leon in grades V (pre-orders from Q3 2022), VZ, VZe and VZx specification, including 2.0-litre turbo 140kW/320Nm, 180kW/370Nm, 180kW/400Nm (including electric motor) and 221kW/400Nm outputs respectively.
Options for the Leon range include a leather and sound package ($2450), electric sunroof ($1800) and metallic paint ($475), with VZe variants further offered with leather upholstery ($2050). The flagship VZx is available with Brembo brakes ($3600), matte paint ($2300), an electric sunroof ($1800) and metallic paint ($475).
It said that the Formentor will be the top-selling Cupa in Australia, mirroring the grade names of the Leon with the addition of 4Drive all-wheel drive on the V and VZx, a high-performance 228kW flagship output and the additional flexibility of a spacious crossover body style.
Options for the Formentor include a leather and power pack ($2750), panoramic sunroof ($2100), metallic paint ($475) on V, VZ and VZe variants, and a Brembo brake pack ($4150), matte paint ($2300), panoramic roof ($2100) and metallic paint ($475) on VZx sporty variants.
The Ateca is exclusively available as VZx with 221kW/400Nm, standard 4Drive all-wheel drive and a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds. Options include an Akropovic exhaust ($5950), Brembo brakes ($4050), panoramic sunroof ($1800) and metallic paint ($475).
The company said this is “an ideal flagship SUV for performance-focused Australian customers.
“Depending on the variant, CUPRA offers design and high-performance personalisation options including Matte Paint (Leon and Formentor VZx), Brembo Brakes (all VZx variants) and Akropovic Exhaust (Ateca VZx).”
