IN THE FACE of ballooning cost of living increases and interest rate rises, LDV has lifted prices on most of its local line-up effective July 1, regardless of when a new vehicle order was placed or the build date of that vehicle.
LDV is attributing the increases to higher manufacturing and shipping costs.
Price affected vehicles in the latest increase are the G10, T60, D90 and V80 models which will increase on July 1 (2022) for all deliveries after that date irrespective of when the order was placed. Full pricing and model increases are listed below.
The increases for private buyers and ABN holders range between $500 to $1053, model and variant dependent.
Motor industry insiders contacted for comment fell into two groups, those that say “it’s a bold move given the current economic climate,” and others who say it was, “smart getting in early before cost of living and interest rate rises really bite.”
Like other car makers, LDV would have been absorbing some inflationary pressures on the component and transportation side of the business over the past year.
Supply chain costs in particular have been rising almost exponentially while cutting into the bottom line for most car makers over the past year or two.
The Deliver 9 range of large van, bus and cab chassis bodies is exempt from the latest round of price rises. However, both faced an increase of $2500 increase (for ABN holders, or $2632 for private buyers) on February 1 this year along with price rises to the popular D90 SUV, V80 and some G10 vans.
LDV seems to have so far resisted increasing the price of its base model petrol G10 manual van on both February 1 and July 1. Option prices and premium paint across the LDV range remain unchanged.
Part of the Ateco Automotive network, owned by legendary yachtsman Neville Crichton, LDV has been building sales in Australia for a few years culminating in a respectable market share driven by some appealing models such as the T60 one-tonne ute and the D90 twin-turbo diesel SUV.
Both sell well amid strong competition from other Chinese brands and vehicles from elsewhere.
LDV has forged this market share by offering value for money to dollar conscious consumers.
Furthermore, the people at Ateco Automotive seem to have been able to steer product specification and styling the right way coming out of LDV’s China factories to the point where they are now fully competitive on most fronts with other offerings in their respective segments.
Sales of LDVs continue to increase this year, up by 12.5 per cent year to date compared with the same period last year.
The D90 SUV has chalked up nearly 2000 sales so far this year closing in on a 300 per cent increase year on year.
