Aston Martin to show off DBX707 at Goodwood

EVER wondered what the world’s fastest luxury SUV looks like when driven hard? A ticket to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will provide the answer, with Aston Martin’s 520kW DBX707 scheduled to tear up the estate’s famous driveway in the first public demonstration of its full capabilities.

Retailing for $428,400 in Australia before on-road costs and options, Aston Martin claims the DBX707 is the fastest and most powerful ultra-luxury SUV available – a bold claim, but given its only real rivals are the 478kW Lamborghini Urus and 467kW Bentley Bentayga Speed, it is one that stacks up.

In fact, Aston’s speediest SUV hits particularly hard, with its twin-turbo AMG-sourced 4.0-litre V8 cranking out 900Nm of torque, 50Nm more than the Lambo and a number equal to the Bentley, which uses a twin-turbo W12 with two litres more displacement.

With a nine-speed auto taking power to all four wheels, the DBX707 (the number refers to its power output in metric horsepower) is capable of sprinting from zero to 100km/h in just 3.3 seconds – 0.3 seconds ahead of the Urus and 0.6 seconds in front of the heavy Bentayga Speed. 

Joining the DBX707 on dynamic displays at Goodwood will be the V12 Vantage, the last to make use of Aston’s iconic V12.

Curiously, despite having just a smidge less power (515kW) and considerably less weight (1795kg) than the 2.2-tonne DBX707, the V12 Vantage’s straight-line sprinting stat is actually 0.1 seconds slower than its SUV sister.

Even so, its dynamic performance should net it a quicker run up the Goodwood hillclimb. Keen on one? Don’t bother – all 333 V12 Vantages sold out before it even launched.

Aston’s ultra-limited V12 Speedster will also be at Goodwood, along with the DBS, Vantage F1 Edition and DB11, all taking on the hillclimb throughout the festival.

Aston Martin’s top-tier Valkyrie hypercar will make another appearance too, piloted by WEC driver Peter Dumbreck to give the crowd an idea of what the company can achieve when the engineers – and chequebook – are let off the leash.
