Mitsubishi debuts limited-edition Triton Sport

MITSUBISHI Australia has announced a limited-edition Triton Sport Edition to sit within its updated MY23 line-up, limited to just 400 units.

 

The Sport Edition is based on the GLS Deluxe and scores aesthetic and mild functional upgrades but, starting at $56,440 plus on-road costs, the price sits well below competitor ‘sport’ models. 

 

Mitsubishi added red accents on the skid plate, side steps, and rear bumper, as well as matte decals on the bonnet and tailgate.

 

The rest of the exterior is suitably ‘blacked out’, a theme that carries into the cabin with black leather trimmed seats and red stitching.

 

Aside from that, there are no wheel or tyre upgrades, performance bumps, slider bars, flares or sports bar which, given the price, isn’t surprising.

 

While a motor-sport focused Ralliart option would have been needed to take the fight to the Ford Raptor, the Sport Edition may be a closer match for the likes of the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior, Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain, Toyota Hilux Rugged X, but then again, maybe not. 

 

Those models saw far more substantial visual and functional upgrades, even if it meant a price hike.

 

The Sport Edition uses the same Super Select 4x4 system, with rear diff lock, as the updated GLS Deluxe model, and is only available in six-speed automatic guise.

 

Power comes from the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel powering the entire 4x2 and 4x2 range, producing 133kW at 3500rpm and 430Nm at 2500rpm.

 

Claimed fuel use figures for the Sport Edition are the same as its GLS Deluxe brother, at 8.6 litres per 100km.

 

GLX-R and GLS variants receive improved SDA1 audio systems for ’23, thanks to improved component supply conditions, with the same 7.0-inch infotainment screen and standard smartphone connectivity.

 

The MY23 GLX models gain black side steps as standard equipment, aiding in accessibility but also, according to Mitsubishi Australia, improving side intrusion protection.

Mitsubishi Australia has confirmed production for the 23MY Triton range will kick off in September 2022, with cars landing in dealerships from December.
