MAZDA has detailed pricing and specification for its forthcoming CX-90 large SUV, the three-row family hauler due in showrooms from August priced from $74,385 plus on-road costs.
Now available to order, the “largest and most luxurious SUV ever to lead the Mazda range” is offered in three grades, and with the choice of mild-hybrid assisted and turbocharged six-cylinder petrol (254kW/500Nm) or diesel (187kW/550Nm) engines.
All variants are equipped as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-biased all-wheel drive system. All variants offer four selectable drive modes: Normal, Sport, Off-Road and Towing, and ride on Mazda’s advanced Kinetic Posture Control suspension arrangement.
Mazda has previously outlined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures for the drivelines here.
The seven-seat CX-90 measures 5100mm in length, 1994mm in width, 1732mm in height and rides on a 3120mm wheelbase. The numbers make it 25mm longer, 25mm narrower, and 15mm shorter than the current CX-9, with 190mm more space between the front and rear axles.
Mazda says the dimensions mean the CX-90 offers the same or greater headroom and shoulder room in every seating row, while also providing 608 litres of cargo space – accessed via a hands-free electric tailgate – with all seating rows in use.
Visually, the entry-level Touring grade is characterised by19-inch alloy wheels in a silver finish, body-coloured exterior mirror caps, and a black bar-type grille.
The cabin of the base variant is upholstered in leather and features powered front seat adjustment and memory, and front seat heaters.
Technology offerings include a 10.25-inch infotainment array with 360-degree camera functionality, eight-speaker audio, DAB+ digital radio reception, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto connectivity, 7.0-inch digital instrument display, keyless entry and push-button ignition, electrochromatic rear-view mirror, native satellite navigation, wireless device charging pad, and tri-zone climate control.
On the safety front, and standard across all CX-90 grades, is a blind-spot monitoring system with vehicle exit warning, driver monitor, front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights with dusk-sensing function and auto high beam, and smart brake support with turn-across traffic function.
The mid-tier GT (from $84,800 + ORC) builds on the Touring grade with adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, signature rear combination lights, 21-inch alloy wheels, front and rear heated seats, heated steering wheel, premium Bose audio system and Mazda’s Driver Personalisation System (auto restoration of all vehicle settings).
Other highlights include a larger 12.3-inch infotainment array and 12.3-inch instrumentation display, electric steering column adjustment, and LED footwell lighting.
Finally, for the flagship CX-90 Azami (from $93,865 + ORCs), we find combination woven textile and Nappa leather upholstery, 21-inch black metallic and machined alloy wheels, 360-degree view monitor with see-through-view, LED ambient cabin lighting, body-coloured wheel arch mouldings, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go functionality, frameless rear-view mirror, and ventilated front seats.
Optionally, the CX-90 Azami is available with second-row captain’s seats (reducing the maximum occupant count to six) and centre console in combination with White or Tan Nappa leather upholstery for $5000.
Eight exterior colours are available across the range including Artisan Red Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black Mica, Machine Grey Metallic, Platinum Quartz Metallic, Rhodium White Metallic, Sonic Silver Metallic or Soul Red Crystal Metallic.
“The Mazda CX-90 establishes a new dimension in grand SUV touring,” said Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi.
“This is more than Mazda’s new flagship SUV, the CX-90 is an expression of exceptional craftsmanship and human-centric technologies, a sophisticated and dynamic vehicle for families and lovers of adventure.”
