MERCEDES-BENZ has introduced a second EQS variant to the Australian market this week, the EQS450 4Matic set to join the Mercedes-AMG EQS53 4Matic+ in local showrooms from next month priced from $219,900 plus on-road costs.

The German importer says the variant offers buyers more choice, while also “establishing a desirable new benchmark in the rapidly growing Mercedes-EQ range”.

Promising outstanding comfort, space and luxury coupled with desirable design and future-focused technology, the Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic features a dual motor driveline with the brand’s all-wheel drive Torque Shift technology and an impressive system output of 450kW and 800Nm.

Response is said to be instantaneous with a quoted 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds.

Standard rear-axle steering allows an angle of up to 4.5º adding what Mercedes-Benz says is extra steering responsiveness at high speeds while also aiding manoeuvrability in low-speed situations by “significantly reducing the turning circle”.

Battery power is rated at 107.8kWh to provide the EQS450 4Matic with a driving range of up to 664km (NEDC). The unit can receive charge from both AC (22kW) and DC (200kW) power sources.

Sharing similarly seductive styling cues with the EQS53, the EQS450 features an AMG Line exterior with AMG-specific front bumper, rear apron and side skirts, along with 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels and a “distinctive Mercedes-Benz grille”.

Inside, the variant boasts Comfort seats, a Nappa leather upholstered multi-function steering wheel, Rear Seat Package incorporating upholstered cushions, luxury head restraints and electrically adjustable backrests. The centre double cupholder is enhanced with an integral inductive charging pad for added convenience.

Brimming with safety and infotainment technology the EQS450 4Matic also includes a 710-watt Burmester 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers, Thermotronic four-zone climate control system, heated and ventilated front seats, head-up display, augmented reality head-up display, 64-colour active ambient lighting, a glass panoramic sliding sunroof, digital LED headlights with adaptive high beam, active parking assist and a 360º camera system.

Driver assistance technologies see the EQS450 4Matic include as standard Mercedes-Benz’s Driver Assistance Package Plus including adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping, traffic sign recognition, route-based speed adaptation, active traffic assist, active steering assist, active lane change assist and the Pre-Safe impulse side accident preparation system.

ANCAP recently awarded the Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic with a five-star safety rating.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says the EQS450 4Matic is available to order now, with the first customer deliveries to begin in September.
