SUBARU has announced pricing for its sixth generation Impreza this week, the significantly updated model due in Australian showrooms from December priced from $31,490 plus on-road costs – an increase of $4200 over the starting price of the current Impreza range.
The hatch-only range carries over the Subaru Global Platform (SGP) underpinnings of its predecessor and features a familiar driveline with no hybrid or electrification offered Down Under.
The grade-walk mirrors that of the recently launched Subaru Crosstrek with 2.0L ($31,490), 2.0R ($34,990), and 2.0S ($37,990) guises to be offered. There is no word yet on Subaru Australia’s case for the 2.5-litre powered Impreza RS.
Justifying the price increase, the Japanese importer says the well specified range will offer a far higher standard level of equipment than was available previously, delivering on buyer’s expectations of the brand.
Locally, the Subaru Impreza will once more rival Small passenger segment contemporaries including the Hyundai i30 (from $24,000 plus on-road costs), Kia Cerato (from $26,290 +ORC), Mazda 3 (from $30,320 +ORC), Toyota Corolla (from $29,610 +ORC) and Volkswagen Golf (from $36,290 +ORC).
Under the bonnet, the 2024 Subaru Impreza features the familiar combination of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Boxer engine delivering 115kW and 196Nm and paired with an eight-step continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Operating on 91RON unleaded petrol, the Impreza consumes a claimed 7.5 litres per 100km on the ADR Combined cycle while emitting 170 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
Structural improvements are said to make the Impreza cabin stronger and quieter, delivering a more comfortable and “ultra-safe” ride. The body rides on a strut (front) and double wishbone (rear) suspension arrangement and is halted by disc brakes at each corner. Depending on variant, 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels are offered.
The Impreza utilises an electrically assisted rack and pinion steering arrangement to provide a turning circle of 10.6 metres.
Against the tape, the new Impreza measures 4490mm in length, 1780mm in width, 1480mm in height and with a wheelbase of 2670mm. Kerb weights range from 1456kg to 1498kg.
All Impreza variants are fitted as standard with the latest generation Subaru EyeSight driver assist technology suite, which now offers a lane centring function and speed sign recognition on top of those features found in the current range.
The redesigned cabin now boasts an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment array “for intuitive control of various multimedia functions”. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are standard alongside wireless phone charging, USB-A and USB-C ports, keyless entry and ignition, dusk-sensing LED headlights, and power-folding wing mirrors.
Impreza 2.0R and 2.0S further include front cornering lights and high beam assist, as well as a 360-degree camera system.
Feature highlights of the Impreza 2.0L include 17-inch alloy wheels, dusk-sensing LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, cloth upholstery, dual-zone climate control, six-speaker sound, and wireless phone charging.
The Impreza 2.0R adds 18-inch wheels, self-levelling and steering responsive headlights, front cornering lights, heated door mirrors, and front LED fog lights, premium cloth trim, a leather-bound steering wheel, auto dimming rear-view mirror, aluminium pedals, heated front seats, and eight-way powered driver seat adjustment.
Finally, the top-grade 2.0S adds a harman/kardon 10-speaker premium sound system, leather accented upholstery, native satellite navigation and a powered sunroof.
Colour options across all grades include Crystal White, Ice Silver, Magnetite Grey, Crystal Black, Pure Red, Oasis Blue, and Sapphire Blue.
All Subaru passenger models are backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and 12 months’ complimentary roadside assistance.
“The 2024 Impreza offers superior handling in all conditions, a sporty hatchback design, the latest in Subaru’s safety tech, and of course Subaru reliability and retained value,” said Subaru Australia managing director, Blair Read.
“The perfect daily driver, a weekend ski trip car, or for country road trips, Impreza offers versatility for the adventures that Subaru owners demand of it.”
