HONDA Australia has confirmed that it will offer the eleventh generation Accord locally form the second quarter of this year.
The Honda Accord is the second-longest running automotive nameplate in the Japanese brand’s history and was first introduced to Australia in 1977.
For 2024, the Honda Accord will be offered with a single powertrain option, the Accord e:HEV RS offering what the importer says is a “sophisticated and sporty design” coupled with a “fuel-efficient yet exhilarating driving experience”.
As is familiar elsewhere in the local Honda portfolio, the Accord features the brand’s latest fourth-generation two-motor hybrid system, first debuted in the CR-V e:HEV RS. The combination features a 135kW 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection paired with dual electric motors mounted in parallel with the crankshaft.
Honda says the all-new Accord is longer and sleeker than previous models with premium proportions and a broad stance. The sedan features a low horizontal beltline and a “long, powerful front-end” design that is backed by “more confident and refined dynamics”.
Paint colours include Crystal Black, Lunar Silver, Meteoroid Grey and Platinum White.
Moving inside, the interior décor features high quality materials and advanced features, including a 12.3-inch infotainment array and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
Honda Australia will announce further details and specifications when pricing is confirmed closer to the model’s local launch.
The current Honda Accord range is priced from $57,900 drive-away in petrol form, the hybrid priced from $61,900 d/a.
Locally, the Accord competes in the Medium passenger car Under $60K segment where it vies against the likes of the BYD Seal (from $49,888 plus on-road costs), Hyundai Sonata (from $55,500 +ORC), Mazda 6 (from $36,290 +ORC), Skoda Octavia (from $42,490 d/a), Toyota Camry (from $35,051 +ORC), and Volkswagen Passat (from $57,790 +ORC).
In 2023, Honda sold just 144 examples of the Accord, placing it last within the segment. The Toyota Camry topped the sector with 10,581 unit sales ahead of the Mazda 6 (1528), Skoda Octavia (1395), Volkswagen Passat (677), BYD Seal (471), and Hyundai Sonata (338).
“The Honda Accord has a rich history in the Australian market as a sophisticated, luxurious flagship model which has been a customer favourite since its arrival in 1977”, said Honda Australia director Carolyn McMahon.
“This new model offers the premium feel that Accord is renowned for, coupled with all the additional technological advances that customers are becoming accustomed to, including Honda’s e:HEV hybrid powertrain that delivers a dynamic combination of performance and efficiency.”
The 2024 Honda Accord will be arriving in local dealerships from the second quarter of 2024.
