Motors & Masterpieces to replace Motorclassica

A NEW event is set to replace Melbourne’s failed Motorclassica exhibition when Motors & Masterpieces takes to the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds this November 22-24.

Curated by the same team responsible for Motorclassica – which cancelled last year’s event just two weeks before commencement – Motors & Masterpieces is being billed as a celebration of the greatest engineering and design achievements in everything automotive, spanning from the inception of motoring to the boundless possibilities of the future.

In following a familiar recipe, organisers say the event will bring together over 200 meticulously selected motorcars and motorcycles organised into six thematic exhibits that reflect significant evolutionary stages and cultural settings.

“Motorcars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles are one of the major technical innovations of all time, redefining societies all over the world, including how we live, work and play,” said Motors & Masterpieces chief curator Mark Jansen.

“In addition to its utility value, the motorcar has also become an outlet for artistic expression and an enabler of cultural movements, from the streets of London or Milan to the beaches of Southern California; it is a symbol of civilisation.

“Through Motors & Masterpieces, we will tell this story with some of the most desirable vehicles ever gathered in Australia, with the entire festival promising to be a highlight of our motoring calendar.

“Our aim is to give automotive lovers a truly unique opportunity to see an outstanding collection of vehicles in one location, with each example a true masterpiece.”

Mr Jansen said the competition for the prestigious Best in Show accolade will feature the finest and most historically significant Australian and International vehicles, offering the public an unparalleled opportunity to witness an extraordinary assembly of automotive masterpieces all in one venue.

“Each vehicle on display represents a true work of art, embodying the essence of automotive brilliance,” he added.

The new event will also feature art and photography prizes, proving what organisers say is a valuable platform for Australia’s leading and budding artists and photographers to display their works in front of a passionate public audience.
