MINI has taken the silk sheet from its Aceman compact electric model at the Beijing Auto Show this week.
The Aceman is already confirmed for the Australian market with first deliveries expected in local showrooms in the fourth quarter of the year. Local specifications and pricing will be confirmed closer to that time.
Based on Mini/GWM Spotlight architecture, the five-door Aceman shares many platform cues with the all-electric Mini Cooper and will be produced at the same Zhangjiagang production facility northwest of Shanghai.
The compact SUV measures 4070mm in length, 1750mm in width, and 1050mm in height, meaning it is around 250mm longer than the Cooper and 40mm taller. Cargo capacity for the Aceman is listed at 300 litres in five-seat mode, expanding to 1005 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Powering the Aceman is a choice of E and SE drivelines, both with a single electric motor. In the former, we find a 135kW/290Nm offering which enables to 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds and a 160km/h top speed. For the latter, a 160kW/330Nm shaves 0.8 seconds from the 0-100km/h sprint and adds 10km/h to the model’s top speed.
Mini provides the Aceman E with a 42.5kWh battery which supports 11kW AC and 75kW DC charging. Range is listed at 310km (WLTP). The Aceman SE boasts a 54.2kWh battery pack and driving range of 406km (WLTP).
In total, four trim grades will be offered for the Aceman at launch – Essential, Classic, Favoured, and JCW. Styling cues differ across the range, as does the size of alloy wheel fitted, spanning 17- through 19 inches.
All Aceman variants appear familiar to other new-generation Mini models with the familiar 9.5-inch OLED centre infotainment screen, optional head-up display, gear and parking brake selector switches, selected HVAC controls, and hazard lights.
The Aceman also offers automated and remote parking, keyless entry via smartphone, voice assistance, and wireless smartphone charging.
“The Mini Aceman brings a new level of excitement to our all-electric line-up, packed with a truly enjoyable immersive digital experience,” said Mini head Stefanie Wurst.
“The Mini Aceman is perfect for navigating crowded city streets, while maintaining the versatility and functionality of a Crossover and the go-kart feeling you can expect from a Mini.
“I am certain that the sleek design, the performance, and the versatility as a five-seater Crossover, will make the Mini Aceman a resounding success.”
More information on Aceman pricing and specification for the Australian market will be announced in due course.
