CHERY has debuted its all-new Omoda 7 SUV at the Beijing Auto Show this week, ahead of the model’s global on-sale date of early 2025.
As the bigger brother to the Omoda 5, the Omoda 7 offers couple-like styling and a larger footprint, all tied together by Chery’s stylish 360 design language.
The show vehicle sports 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels and gleaming pearl white paint, its “perfect dynamic proportions … featuring a low-slung posture and a sophisticated silhouette”, says Chery.
Dimensionally, the Chery Omoda 7 measures 4621mm in length, 1872mm in width, 1673mm in height. It rides on a 2700mm wheelbase. Those figures see the model measure some 221mm longer, 42mm wider, and 85mm taller than the Omoda 5, and 70mm longer between the axles.
The Omoda 7 will rank size-wise alongside competitors such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, though likely at a far lower price point.
GoAuto understands the Omoda 7 will offer the choice of plug-in hybrid (initially) and petrol power, launching with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with electric assistance.
All-electric range is quoted at 95km with combined petrol and electric power returning 4.9 litres per 100km. All told, the driving range will come close to 1200km.
The petrol engine is expected to be the 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit lifted from the Jaecoo J7.
It is further understood that there are no plans for an all-electric (BEV) version of the Chery Omoda 7.
Moving inside we find a newly styled cabin with a 15.6-inch sliding centre touchscreen, Sony-sourced 14-speaker surround sound system, four-zone voice control, and even a fragrance dispenser, and noise cancelling technology for a “fresh, serene and comfortable travel space”.
The steering wheel is said to be inspired by the controls of a PlayStation 5, the front seats also inspired by those of the gaming arena and upholstered in quilted Nubuck leather.
Driver assistance technologies also take a leap ahead, the Omoda 7 featuring voice-controlled lane changing for those intimidated by the process.
Chery says that pricing and full specification detail will be announced closer to the model’s launch.
