Honda adds safety kit to CR-V and ZR-V

BY MATT BROGAN | 7th Jun 2024

HONDA has upgraded both its CR-V and ZR-V lines this week introducing a new ‘Plus’ (+) variant in place of the base grade petrol-powered version in each range.

Importantly, the upgrades see each model receive previously unavailable safety equipment – including blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert – at the more affordable end of the range.

Modest price increases (detailed below) see the freshly introduced CR-V VTi-X+ priced at $44,700 drive-away, an $800 increase over the donor variant.

Meanwhile, the Z-RV VTi-X+ will be priced from $39,900 drive-away, or $400 more than its donor variant, while the mid-tier VTi-L+ also received a $400 price increase to now retail from $42,900 drive-away.

Further, and until the end of this month (June 30), Honda Australia of offering an extended eight-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty (usually five years and unlimited distance) and eight years’ complimentary roadside assistance on all ZR-Vs, MY23 CR-V petrol-powered models, and MY24 CR-V e:HEV (hybrid) models.

Five-year capped price servicing is retained, with both the CR-V and ZR-V costing $199 to service at each interval irrespective of model grade.

As announced by GoAuto last month, both the CR-V and ZR-V ranges are expected to be expanded further by the addition of more affordable e:HEV models towards the end of 2024.

The Japanese importer said it is planning to broaden its petrol-electric hybrid range in Australia soon by offering its e:HEV drivelines on lower-specification variants after initially introducing the technology exclusively on each model’s range-topper.

With Honda’s hybrid range currently placed at the top of each respective model range, it is expected the addition of lower spec variants will bring down the price of the technology for Honda customers.

In turn, it is also likely that Honda could regain some of the market share it lost in moving to an agency sales model – or see a reduced take-up of internal combustion engine (ICE) models.
