Chery passes 1.1m unit half-year milestone
CHERY has for the first time since its founding in 1997 broken the one-million mark for cumulative sales in a half-year period.
With a total of 1,100,621 vehicles produced between January and June 2024, Chery recorded an impressive 48.8 per cent increase when compared with the same period in 2023 – including 532,000 export units (up 29.4 per cent).
In parallel, domestic market sales of 568,463 units represent an increase of 72.2 per cent YoY for the Chinese manufacturer, which it says helped it to lead the Chinese automotive industry across four categories.
The first of the four categories is overall growth, Chery claiming it grew once again in June, up 38.0 per cent; the second is growth in the New Energy Vehicle segment, where it is up 181.5 per cent; the third is the SUV segment (gain unstated); and the fourth its position as China’s leading passenger vehicle exporter for 21 consecutive years.
Chery says its strong sales performance is based in equal parts internal combustion engine and electrified models, which have “driven sales figures to new heights in the past six months”.
In Australia, the importer achieved two significant milestones in June, surpassing 10,000 sales since launching in March 2023, while the brand simultaneously achieved 1000 in a month sales for the first time in June 2024 (1079 units) following the launch of the Tiggo 8 Pro Max.
The importer will launch its first EV in Australia from September, the Omoda E5 “promising to build on the positive sales momentum for the brand in Australia”.
Adapted from Chery’s Omoda 5 ICE model, the E5 is a single front (electric) engine and front-wheel drive vehicle with a 150kW/340Nm traction motor delivering a claimed range of 430km (WLTP) thanks in part to the 61kWh lithium-ion battery using electrons at 15.5kW/100km.
Said battery is capable of a 10-80 per cent recharge in 30 minutes via an 80kW recharger according to Chery information. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is clocked in 7.6 seconds.
Two variants will be available in Standard and Premium specification both with 90 per cent different interiors compared with the ICE-powered donor petrol Omoda 5.
