Genesis facelifts G80 sedan

PREMIUM South Korean brand Genesis has announced a MY25 facelift to its G80 large sedan that brings styling updates and additional safety, comfort and convenience technology.

The range has been cut to two: 2.5T RWD four-cylinder and 3.5T AWD V6 turbocharged petrol-powered variants both with the previously optional Luxury Package as standard equipment.

Four piston monobloc front brake callipers are also now standard fitment while the engines and eight speed automatic transmissions are carried over.

The fully electric G80 sedan remains and will be facelifted later in the year or early next year.

Pricing starts at $104,000 for the G80 2.5T (was $84,584 without the luxury pack) with the G80 3.5T listed from $121,000 (was $113,584 including Luxury Pack) both excluding on-road costs.

Competitors in the Large passenger car segment include the Audi A6 from $103,484, the BMW 5-Series from $114,900, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class from $131,500 and the Jaguar XF from $114,470 (all excluding on-road costs).

Tech upgrade highlights implemented on this upgrade include a large 27-inch-wide OLED integrated display, fingerprint recognition, UV-C sanitising compartment and active road noise cancelling.

The latest generation Genesis connected services and over the air (OTA) update capability is included on both models via a smart phone or from within the car.

Diving deeper into the facelift we find exterior and interior updates, enhanced safety, comfort and convenience through the application of the latest driving and assistance systems.

Genesis says the restyled exterior with a new emblem “reinforces an athletic and elegant image, while interior styling enhancements bring a seamless design that infuses every drive with luxury and convenience”.

But you’ll need a sharp eye to pick the changes that centre on a “refreshed” G-Matrix Grille and bumpers, micro lens array LED headlights with dynamic welcome light function and new 19- and 20-inch wheel designs.

The MY25 G80 is available in a broad range of exterior colours, including all-new shades and Sport-exclusive combinations that include new hues: Vatna Grey, Kawah Blue and Brooklyn Brown, with Cavendish Red exclusively for 2025 G80 Sport.

Also on the palette are Uyuni White, Savile Silver, Tasman Blue, Vik Black, Capri Blue, Hallasan Green and Makalu Grey with the latter also offered in matte finish, along with Verbier White and Bond Silver.

The optionally available $6000 Sport package only on 3.5T provides a differentiated and dynamic image with specific styling and exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels to underline its performance capability…. gaining stickier Michelin tyres, rear-wheel steering, an electronic limited-slip differential and two-mode braking function.

Exclusive to the 3.5T is road preview ECS technology that detects speed humps and potholes ahead using the front camera and then sets variable suspension damping force to optimise ride comfort.

Genesis focused inside on the new three spoke steering wheel and 27-inch-wide OLED display that incorporates multimedia/navigation and cluster information.

It has a touch-type air conditioner panel in a “stylish and modern fascia with an advanced centre console, putting intuitive control within easy reach”. Upholstery is available in multiple colours and combinations and model dependent with wood or carbon fibre fascia materials.

An emphasis is on media information and “comfort and convenience additions (that) include a fingerprint recognition module, a heated front console armrest with UV-C sanitising compartment, three-zone climate control, active road noise cancelling and 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio”.

An optional rear seat entertainment system is available on the 3.5T and Sport that includes a dedicated screen.

New iterations of ADAS tech in the MY25 G80 include updated highway driving assist, forward collision avoidance-assist with car/pedestrian/cyclist detection, and lane following assist with hands on detection.

Also in the assistance package are parking collision-avoidance assist (forward/side/reverse), rear occupant alert (radar type), remote smart parking assist, smart cruise control with machine learning and navigation-based smart cruise control all as standard equipment.

Genesis benefits include a complimentary warranty for five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty (unless used for commercial purposes), complimentary scheduled logbook servicing every 12 months or 15,000km for the first five years or 75,000 km, whichever occurs first.

Also included are a 24/7 premium roadside assistance program for five years, increasing to 10 years if servicing is conducted by Genesis and Genesis to You which lets owners avail themselves of the concierge service and courtesy vehicle service for five years.

“2025 G80 applies further sheen to our popular flagship with sophisticated styling updates and a plethora of additional features, to deliver a large sedan of unprecedented luxury,” said Genesis Motors Australia’s Justin Douglass said.

“With the Luxury Package now standard, a range of new and enhanced safety and comfort technologies, and the convenience of Genesis Connected Services and Over the Air updates, 2025 G80 present a persuasive package.”
