GWM has cut its Ora Extended Range small electric hatch price to $36,990 drive-away representing a $2000 discount while the price of the standard range Ora remains unchanged at $35,990 drive-away.
The latest cut follows a discount to the GWM Cannon utility earlier this month and a rash of GWM repricing going back 12 months.
The Chinese importer is locked in a “battle royale” with MG Motor for the cheapest entry into a fully electric EV, a position currently held by MG’s ZS EV at $34,990 drive-away.
Other brands are circling with offers of their own to entice buyers with a swag of new brands due to enter the Aussie market within the next 12 months adding another level of competition and Chery is yet to annoiuce pricing for its new Omoda E5.
While price cuts are a blunt tool, the practice brings affordability to a more attainable level though balanced against that, the practice undermines the value of current owner’s cars when they trade in.
GWM bills its latest parry as “Go With More For Less” with pricing revised on the Ora Extended Range and the Ora GT. It says the Ora Extended Range (420km claimed) is now Australia’s most affordable EV able to boast a range in excess of 400km.
The marketing scalpel sees Ora GT pricing cut $1000 to $43,990 drive-away, GWM targeting buyers looking for something a little sportier.
Both models are equipped with the same 63kWh Ternary Lithium battery and come with a five-star ANCAP safety rating aided by a comprehensive suite of active safety features.
The electric traction motor outputs 126kW and 250Nm and can provide instant acceleration whenever it is needed says GWM. The model is equipped with a one pedal driving mode facilitating city driving.
The better equipped GT sets itself apart through different exterior styling focused on the bumpers and grille, 18-inch alloy wheels and red brake callipers, also adding a panoramic sunroof, handsfree electric tailgate and massaging front seats with heating and ventilation.
The Ora is available through 103 GWM dealers nationwide. All variants are covered by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, eight-year battery warranty, five-year roadside assist program, and five-year capped price servicing deal.
