New York show: Genesis teases sports sedan concept

BURGEONING South Korean luxury car brand Genesis has issued a teaser image and video offering glimpses of a sports sedan concept it will reveal at the New York motor show this week, possibly previewing an upcoming BMW 3 Series fighter.

The high-end Hyundai spin-off describes the four-door as “expressing the design direction that will distinguish forthcoming Genesis products”.

A dimly-lit front-on photo reveals the concept will have a broad-shouldered, purposeful stance and distinctive low-profile, three-dimensional effect LED headlights either side of the familiar trapezoidal Genesis grille.

The video provides additional hints of the attention to detail lavished on this concept, such as graduated honeycomb-esque grilles behind the front wheels and the intricate lace-like design of the interior’s air-conditioning vents.

Genesis brand head Manfred Fitzgerald said the concept is a “progressive concept car that showcases the design quality of the brand”.

“With its expressive volumes and refined design, the New York concept truly embodies the athletic elegance, which characterises Genesis products,” he said.

Genesis revealed the G90 limousine late last year, which will go after German stalwarts such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class but is currently only confirmed for left-hand-drive markets.

For now, Australians must make do with Hyundai’s E-Class-sized Genesis sedan, priced between $60,000 and $82,000 plus on-road costs.
