BMW Australia has announced the imminent arrival of mid-tier 1 Series Hatch and 2 Series Gran Coupe grades, expected in local showrooms before the middle of this year.

Priced from $60,600 and $62,900 respectively, the 120 Hatch and 220 Gran Coupe will be powered by a familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine tuned to deliver 150kW/300Nm. Both utilise a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and are front-wheel driven.

BMW says the duo can complete the standing 0-100km/h dash in 7.2 and 7.3 seconds respectively.

As is evident elsewhere in the line-up, both the 120 Hatch and 220 Gran Coupe offer a high level of standard specification, replicating that of the 118 and 218, BMW focusing on the increase in power and torque as a key differentiator.

New equipment highlights include BMW Sport package with 18-inch M light alloy wheels (with repair kit ‘spare’), BMW Iconic Glow grille, adaptive LED headlights with auto high beam, adaptive M suspension, head-up display, keyless entry and ignition, powered front seat adjustment with driver side memory function, front seat heating, Veganza upholstery, and a powered tailgate (120 only).

BMW Live Cockpit Professional with 10.25-inch instrument display, 10.7-inch instrumentation, head-display, onboard 5G connectivity, DAB+ digital radio, and wireless device charging is also included, all powered by BMW’s Operating System 9 software.

Standard safety equipment extends to adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, exit warning, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, speed limit information, tyre pressure monitoring, and more.

Both grades also include as standard BMW’s Park Assistance Plus package with active park distance control, BMW Drive Recorder, 360-degree camera system, park assistant, and reversing assistant.

Optionally, and as per the 118 and 218 lines, the 120 and 220 may be optioned with BMW’s Enhancement Package ($6500 and $6700 respectively) and M Sport Package Pro ($3200).
