THE Alfa crusade (1998-onward) has entered a critical phase as its latest warrior, the 147, emerges from Europe - and it does not let the side down. Even in five-door form as tested here, the compact hatch has an appearance only a cold-hearted soul could fail to admire. Strong impressions are made elsewhere, too: in interior ambience, attention to detail, driver comfort and, perhaps most important of all, the driving experience.
