THE Audi A4 has a high level of active and passive safety equipment. While the handling and braking performance is high (examples of active safety), on the passive safety front dual front airbags and dual front side airbags are standard and all three-point seatbelts use pyrotechnic pretensioners.

"Sideguard" head airbag curtains are available as an option. Extra reinforcement in the centre pillar area helps dissipate side impact forces more effectively.
