BITTER family infighting could be on the cards as Audi launches its compact all-road wagon following its cousins, Skoda’s Octavia Scout and Volkswagen's Passat Alltrack.

Not to mention the recent announcement of a Golf Alltrack variant and hints of a cross-country version of Volvo's V60 wagon.

Cleverly, Audi punches its A4 Allroad higher, tipping into the prestige sector with a $70,500 plus on-road costs price, loads of quality kit and its sights set on upmarket cross-country wagons such as the Volvo XC70.

Like its big sibling the A6 Allroad, Audi has revived the smaller wagon by overturning its previous limited-run status and making it a permanent fixture in the model range.

Unlike the A6, however, Audi isn’t dropping the traditional wagons and the Allroad will drive alongside the three existing A4 Avant variants.

It isn’t a new model, rather it’s a rejuvenation of the all-wheel, all-road concept. The A4 version gets more equipment and neater looks, changes its drivetrain and has more off-road capability.
