Sydney show: Audi's Aussie A4 debut

BY PHILIP LORD | 11th Oct 2007

JUST weeks after the A4 made its global debut at the Frankfurt motor show, Audi’s all-important new-generation volume-selling model has taken to the turntable at the Australian International Motor Show at Darling Harbour.

Featuring a shorter front overhang, longer wheelbase and longer bonnet, the new A4 hits European showrooms in November and makes its sales debut Down Under in April next year.

A choice of two petrol and two TDI engines will be offered here, with pricing starting at around $50,000 to $55,000 for the A4 1.8 TFSI variant.

A 3.2 FSI, 2.0 TDI and 2.7 TDI will flesh out the range. Audi also showed its green credentials with the A3 Sportback 1.9 TDIe.

The new model has received attention to fuel mapping, gearing, aerodynamics and so on to yield a fuel consumption average of 4.5L/100km.

Priced from around $37,000, the 1.9 TDIe is available for customer order from today. Today was the first public viewing of the R8 and S5 coupes since the pair’s launch earlier this month.

The R8, with its 309kW/430Nm 4.2 FSI V8, is priced from $259,900 for the six-speed manual, and from $274,900 for the six-speed sequential-manual gearbox.

The new S5 4.2 FSI is the first of the A5/S5 Coupe range to arrive, with the 260kW/440Nm 4.2 FSI six-speed manual coupe priced from $131,900.
