AUDI’S A6 Allroad premium station wagon has arrived in local showrooms almost a year after the fifth-generation A6 large sedan launched in Australia, with the jacked-up, diesel-powered crossover carrying a pricetag of $109,500 plus on-road costs for the sole 45 TDI grade.
The Allroad brings a major point of difference to the A6 range, as the only model in the line-up powered by a turbo-diesel engine and the only one offered in the Avant wagon body style.
Like the previous Allroad, the new version is underpinned by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine that in this case produces 183kW of power and 600Nm of torque, marking a 23kW/100Nm improvement.
Mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, the Allroad drives all four wheels through Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system.
The all-paw wagon reaches 100km/h from standstill in a claimed 6.5 seconds, while sipping 6.6 litres of diesel per 100km and emitting 174g/km of CO2.
Riding on standard adaptive air suspension, the Allroad can adjust its ride height for alternating ground clearance depending on the drive mode selected, with up to 184mm available.
With the help of the diesel engine, a maximum braked towing capacity of 2500kg is also achieved.
Apart from the body style, the Allroad is distinguished from the rest of the A6 range by black cladding around the lower skirts, vertical chrome slats on the single-frame grille, 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels and puddle lights that illuminate an ‘Allroad’ graphic on the ground.
Matrix LED headlights and dynamic LED tail-lights come as standard, along with exterior aluminium trim elements, illuminated door sills and an electric tailgate with gesture control.
Inside, the Allroad has a similar interior fit-out to the rest of the A6 range, with dual touchscreens measuring 10.1 and 8.6 inches housing the MMI Navigation infotainment system and HVAC cluster, with haptic feedback providing an extra classy touch.
Audi’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display is also included as standard, as is a head-up display, Audi connect plus, wireless smartphone charging and Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, Valcona leather upholstery with contrast stitching, three-spoke leather-clad steering wheel, heated sport front seats, stainless-steel pedals, auto-dimming rearview mirror, extended upholstery package and three-zone climate control.
On the safety front, the A6 crossover scores autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic assist, Audi side assist, rear cross-traffic assist, turn assist, intersection assist, exit warning, active bonnet, loose wheel detection and surround-view cameras.
Options include the $8900 Premium plus package with rear privacy glass, HD Matrix LED lights, electric steering column adjustment, panoramic glass sunroof, Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, four-zone climate control, LED colour interior lighting and the choice of two 21-inch alloy wheel designs.
The Australian A6 wagon range will be expanded to include the high-performance RS6 Avant in coming months.
