THE S6 suspension configuration is fully independent, comprising a four-link set-up at the front and a trapezoidal link at the rear. An anti-roll bar is provided at each end. Following principles used in the A6 4.2 quattro, the lightweight, aluminium suspension construction is taken a step further in the S6 with the use of new aluminium subframes front and rear. The rear-axle subframe is a welded structure made up of cast elements and extruded sections. The aluminium subframes result in a total weight reduction of 10.8kg compared with the use of steel. Audi claims progressive-rate springs ensure well-balanced performance from the suspension, despite the lowered body and shorter spring travel.
