AUDI has rolled out a camouflaged new-generation A8 flagship sedan in Los Angeles at the world premiere of the new Spider-Man: Homecoming movie, a film which contains a sneak peek of the undisguised car.
Sticking with the premise, the fourth-generation A8 wore a superhero-themed wrap to mask its final look with Spider-Man logos and faux-webbing adorning the large luxury limo, which ferried the film’s star, Tom Holland, to the red carpet event.
Details including the slim headlights, prominent Audi front grille and 10-spoke wheel design are all on show however, as well as the A8’s subtle shoulder crease.
The movie will also showcase the A8’s self-driving abilities with a scene involving the Audi AI Traffic Jam Pilot software in effect to “take over the task of driving” when a character removes his hands from the wheel.
As previously reported, the new luxury limo from Ingolstadt will debut a number of new cutting-edge technologies including a camera-assisted adaptive air suspension system, electromechanical four-wheel steering, AI-controlled remote parking and a 48V mild-hybrid powertrain for six- and eight-cylinder engines.
In addition to the A8, an Audi R8 Spyder was also in attendance at the premiere occupied by Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau – who play Tony Stark/Iron Man and his bodyguard Happy Hogan respectively.
Audi has a long history with Marvel’s superhero movies, specifically Iron Man, as the superhero is seen driving a first-generation R8 in 2008’s Iron Man, an R8 Spyder in Iron Man 2, an all-electric R8 e-tron prototype in Iron Man 3 and, finally, a second-generation R8 V10 coupe in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The German car-maker is planning a full unveiling of its BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class-rivalling model on July 11 at the Audi Summit in Barcelona.
