WE HAD our first encounter with Audi's all-new R8 flagship in February this year followed by a second spin at the global launch of Pirelli's new P Zero in April, but in both cases the drive was confined to the flawless fun of a race track.

But the right-hand-drive versions have now arrived in Australia and Audi's fastest road-going production model to date is ready to hit the public blacktop.

For our third meeting, GoAuto left the circuit behind and hit New South Wales' Snowy Mountains to see if the R8's mighty track capabilities translate to the road, or if Australia's bitumen is too much for its hardcore constitution.
