Audi RS 6 Avant GT arrives Down Under

BY PETER BARNWELL | 16th Aug 2024

CAR collectors have a tempting opportunity to expand their portfolio following the arrival Down Under of the race-car-inspired Audi RS 6 Avant GT priced from $399,000 plus on-road costs.

Excluding high-riding SUVs and less practical sedans, the fast four ring GT wagon has no real competitors and arrives at a premium of close to $150,000 over the (slightly) less hard core RS 6 Avant Performance model.

For comparative purposes, similar money puts you behind the wheel of BMW’s M8 Competition from $380,000, the Corvette Stingray Z06 3LZ from $336,147 and the Maserati GranTurismo from $375,000 all +ORC.

Audi Australia says the rare and exclusive new model, draws inspiration from the brand’s “storied” performance heritage, including the iconic Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car.

But Australia’s allocation is limited to just 22 individually numbered examples from a total global production of 660 units.

“We are excited to bring the RS 6 Avant GT to the Australian market. This exclusive model not only underscores Audi’s commitment to performance and innovation but also celebrates our rich motorsport heritage,” said Audi Australia director Jeff Mannering.

“This unique car is a brilliant example of Audi’s continuous pursuit of dynamic driving performance. With its bespoke features and highly limited availability, the RS 6 Avant GT will create a new chapter in the history of Audi in Australia.”

The muscular looking GT is aggressively propelled by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivering some 463kW and 850Nm and has a top speed limited to 305km/h and a 0-100km/h sprint time in a claimed 3.3 seconds underscoring its high-performance credentials.

Keeping control of dynamics is the GT’s manually adjustable coil-over suspension, ceramic brakes and a specially tuned quattro sport differential on the rear axle.

Bespoke elements found across the special edition include the distinctively designed front bumpers and fascia that incorporate a carbon bonnet and front guards.

The roof edge spoiler, tailgate and rear diffuser have been re-profiled to enhance aerodynamics and visual appeal.

Two exterior colour choices are available in Mythos black or Arkona white each complemented by Audi motorsport-inspired decals matched to the selected colour.

The GT rolls on 22-inch Audi Sport six-arm Avus inspired alloy wheels, available in either white or black, once again depending on the vehicle colour selected.

Adding visual gravitas are vivid red brake callipers and carbon exterior mirror caps the black Audi rings and badging further enhancing its bold on-road presence.

The interior is equally as dramatic featuring RS front bucket seats clad in leather and Dinamica with seat backrest covers in matte carbon-fibre.

Details including the armrests, and centre console sides feature contrast stitching in combination of red and copper and are also upholstered in black Dinamica along with the dashboard and door waist rails.

Also Inside, the GT features inlays in open-pore carbon twill structure and an Audi virtual cockpit plus with an RS layout.

The standard fitment Sensory package is said to enrich the driving experience centred on a Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced Sound System, black Dinamica headlining, rear door window sunshades, a leather steering wheel airbag cover, and heated rear outer seats.

Each example is individual numbering on the centre console to highlight its exclusivity while red seat belts and front floor mats with the RS GT logo in red underscore the model's race-car links.

All Aussie-spec RS 6 Avant GTs have an identical fixed specification tailored for collectors and driving enthusiasts alike.

The model arrives with a five-year warranty and twelve years manufacturer warranty for bodywork against corrosion perforation and complimentary five-year Audi roadside assistance.

During the warranty period, Audi owners receive a complimentary membership to Audi Experience, Audi Australia's bespoke loyalty program offering access to exclusive events, intimate Audi Ambassador experiences, and premium partner offers.

The Audi RS 6 Avant GT has already been allocated to a select number of Audi customers.
