THE Model Year 2001 5 Series Sport range brought an enhanced appearance courtesy of a larger front splitter and rear diffuser, aerodynamic sill skirts and a boot-mounted spoiler. Like the standard car, it also gained new headlights with clear glass covers, round direction indicators and round front foglights in a revised front under-bumper skirt. The new M54 engines in 2.5 (525i) and 3.0-litre (530i) capacity also debuted, along with an electronically controlled accelerator (drive by wire) and the availability of a number of additional options such as front parking sensors and rear head-side airbags.
