YOU might expect a concerted efficiency drive on a small hatchback, but the sizeable BMW 650i Coupe and Convertible are not the obvious recipients of fuel-reduction measures, especially when we are talking about a car with a 270kW 4.8-litre V8 petrol powerplant purring below the svelte bonnet line. Yet this is exactly what BMW has done to its four-seater grand tourer, in an effort to keep the six-year old fresh. But is a six per cent fall in petrol consumption enough for a fashion-conscious sports car that was around when Kevin Rudd still had to answer to Mark Latham?
