BMW will reduce the entry point for its 6 Series Coupe range by almost $50,000 with the launch of the all-new second-generation model in Australia next month, introducing a six-cylinder variant priced from $178,300 plus on-road costs.
Previously, the only 6 Series Coupe available here was the V8-powered 650i model at $227,300. The new version of that car, which also arrives in Australian showrooms from December, will be $5000 more expensive than before at $232,300.
The new entry-level 640i is powered by the same 235kW/450Nm turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six as the convertible version that was launched here in August at $194,300.
Standard equipment includes full-colour head-up display, internet access, ‘Professional’ level satellite-navigation, voice recognition, keyless entry, LED fog lights, adaptive bi-Xenon headlights with high-beam assist, parking sensors front and rear, cruise control with automatic braking function, rear view camera and an electric glass sunroof.
The range-topping 650i – powered by a turbo 300kW/600Nm 4.4-litre V8 – additionally gets BMW’s Adaptive Drive system (incorporating variable suspension control), seat heating and cooling, automatic soft close doors, a high-end sound system, BMW’s ‘Surround View’ and a TV function.
Both models feature an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard for the first time, replacing the previous six-speed unit.
