BMW announces 6 Series GT pricing

BMW Australia has released pricing for its upcoming 6 Series Gran Turismo, which will land in local showrooms in November priced from $123,500 plus on-roads.

Consisting of two variants, the 630i and 640i xDrive, the new range replaces the GT variants previously offered in the 5 Series line-up that were sold with the choice of two diesel and one petrol engine.

The new range will consist of two petrol-powered variants, including a 190kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit in the 630i, marking the first time a 6 Series-badged vehicle has been offered with a four-pot engine.

Its $123,500 sticker price easily undercuts the $181,810 point of entry to the 6 Series coupe range, while the 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder 640i xDrive will cost $148,900.

Both variants come teamed to an eight-speed sports automatic transmission with paddle shifters, while fuel economy is rated at 7.0 litres per 100km for the 630i, up to 8.5L/100km for the all-paw 640i.

With the addition of the 6 Series badge comes a change in dimensions over the 5 Series GT, including an 87mm increase in length, 20mm reduction in height, a 110 litre increase in boot space and weight savings of up to 105kg thanks to the use of BMW’s Efficient LightWeight platform technology.

Aerodynamic enhancements include the addition of the active kidney grille that can open and close as required, and air breathers positioned behind the front wheels.

The 640i will become BMW Australia’s second passenger vehicle behind the recently-released M760Li luxury sedan to employ the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which uses a 40:60 front:rear torque split and can adapt from 0:100 to 100:0 for optimal grip in all conditions.

It also gains the Integral Active Steering rear-wheel steering system, which increases manoeuvrability and is available as an optional extra on the 630i.

Standard on the range is adaptive two-axle air suspension with dynamic damper control for greater ride quality.

Inside, both variants come with the iDrive6 infotainment system operated via a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch instrument display screen, head-up display, panoramic glass sunroof, wireless smartphone charging and BMW’s latest generation of Driving Assistant Plus semi-autonomous technologies first seen on the new-gen 5 Series sedan.

The Driving Assistant Plus package includes active cruise control with stop and go function, steering and lane control assistant, lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection, front and rear cross-traffic warning, crossroads warning, evasion aid, rear collision prevention, and lane departure warning.

Standard equipment on the 630i includes M Sport package with 19-inch double-spoke light-alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, automatic tailgate, active rear spoiler, M Sport brakes, comfort access, high beam assist, parking assistant plus, ConnectedDrive, DAB+ digital radio, 16-speaker harman/kardon sound system, two-zone climate control, anthracite roofliner, heated front seats with lumbar support and Dakota leather upholstery.

Upgrading to the 640i xDrive adds 20-inch hoops, integral active steering, metallic paintwork, front comfort seats, active front seat ventilation, four-zone climate control, ambient air, rear seats with electric backrest adjustment, electric roller sunblinds for rear side windows and Nappa leather upholstery.

The Luxury Line package, which adds a number of different styling and interior tweaks, can be optioned on either variant for no additional cost.

Other option packages include the $1600 Innovations package, the $3000 Comfort package (630i only) and the $8000 Indulgence package (640i).

BMW Group Australia CEO Marc Werner said the 6 Series GT was a more practical 6 Series offering that featured much of BMW’s cutting-edge technology.
