BMW chairman recovering after fall

THE strain of the world’s largest motor show took its toll on the new BMW chairman Harald Krueger, who fainted during the brand’s presentation to the media at the Frankfurt motor show in Germany yesterday.

The 49-year-old was only a few minutes into his speech to a large media contingent when he became unsteady on his feet, stumbling backwards before falling to the floor.

Several staffers moved quickly to help the executive to his feet and assisted him to walk unsteadily from the stage.

It was the new chairman’s first major motor show address since taking the reigns of the luxury car-maker in May, having been with the company since 1992.

A BMW spokesperson said Mr Krueger had completed a large amount of international travel prior to the Frankfurt media preview and had been feeling unwell prior to going on stage.

Mr Krueger was subsequently examined by a doctor after what has been described as “a moment of dizziness” and was now recovering well, according to the company spokesperson.

The new 7 Series, X1 SUV and 3 Series were among the key unveilings for the German car-maker at its home event. It also showcased its push into electrification, with plug-in hybrid versions of the 3 Series and 2 Series Active Tourer on display.
