CHERY has confirmed the planned release of its Tiggo 8 Pro Max seven-seat SUV range this week, the model slated for arrival in Australian showrooms from April.
The third model in Chery’s Aussie SUV offensive joins the mid-sized Tiggo 7 Pro and smaller Omoda 5 as one of a growing number of offerings to be presented by the Chinese importer.
Chery is set to offer the Tiggo 8 Pro Max in three grades – Urban, Elite, and Ultimate – with front- and all-wheel drive configurations available. All will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine developing 180kW of power and 375Nm of torque.
The importer has yet to provide further details of the model, including those for fuel economy and pricing, but says the model’s dynamic abilities are “complemented by a smooth and responsive seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, ensuring a pleasurable driving experience on Australian roads”.
Measuring 4720mm in length, 1860mm in width, 1705mm in height, and riding on a 2710mm wheelbase, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max tips the scale at 1626kg in front-wheel drive format and 1731kg in all-wheel drive configuration.
The model will become the 25th entrant in Australia’s bustling SUV Medium under $60K segment.
It is expected to rival the likes of the GWM H6 (from $33,900 d/a), Honda CR-V (from $44,500 d/a), Kia Sportage (from $32,995 plus on-road costs), MG HS (from $32,990 d/a), Mitsubishi Outlander (from $37,740 +ORC), and Nissan X-Trail (from $37,250 +ORC) to name but a few.
Visually, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max boasts what its manufacturer says is a modern and stylish design that seamlessly blends aesthetics and functionality. Much like the Tiggo 7 Pro, Chery says the family-sized model offers sleek lines, a bold grille and attention-grabbing LED headlights to make a striking first impression.
The seven-seat SUV is said to offer a spacious and comfortable interior and a luxurious driving environment.
Specification and equipment details are expected to be announced closer to the model’s local launch, however GoAuto understands all grades will arrive with 18-inch alloy wheels, climate control, static front cornering lights, rear fog lights, and power windows and mirrors.
Range-topping grades may further be optioned with a sunroof, 19-inch alloys, and larger front disc brake rotors (316mm versus 308mm).
Safety equipment is understood to include a front-centre airbag, AEB, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, a reversing camera, and more.
The 2024 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max will be offered locally with a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty program with included capped-price servicing scheme and up to seven years of roadside assistance.
To date, and since its launch just last year, Chery has sold over 6000 vehicles in Australia, the majority being its popular Omoda 5 small SUV. The importer already has 60 dealerships nationally, including in metropolitan and regional locations.
“We are delighted to introduce the Tiggo 8 Pro Max to the Australian market,” said Chery Australia managing director Lucas Harris.
“This modern and innovative seven-seat family SUV expands the Chery range in Australia and is set to deliver a premium motoring experience.”
Mr Harris said the model is now available for customers to register their interest online.
