GENERAL Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has confirmed production of the Australia and New Zealand-bound C8 Corvettes will begin later this month as Chevrolet gets back into its production groove following COVID-19 and lockdown-inflicted delays.

Taking to Facebook last week, GMSV also revealed Australia’s first right-hook C8 had been registered as part of the brand’s local validation and testing procedure.

“To our passionate Corvette fans, while COVID and lockdowns have impacted our launch plans, we wanted to assure you that we're committed to launching this vehicle with the fanfare it deserves,” the Facebook post said.

“We look forward to engaging with owners, clubs and fans around Australia and New Zealand when restrictions allow.”

The C8 Corvette is the first of its breed to adopt a mid-engine configuration, though purists are kept happy by the fact drive remains exclusively to the rear wheels with power coming courtesy of a 369kW/637Nm 6.2-litre V8.
