WERE we the only ones to take some time to warm to the Chrysler 300C? Its chunky styling, boulevard suspension, interior packaging and the fact that it was based on an old E-class Mercedes platform may have worried a minority initially, including us, but the proof has been in sales. The 300C has rocketed out of showrooms, answering many Aussie folks’ desire for something different – and significantly - non-European. When it was launched late last year, the initial line-up consisted of a 3.5-litre V6 and 5.7-litre HEMI V8. The 6.1-litre SR-T has just joined the team and now we’ve spent some time behind the wheel of the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel, which completes the sedan line-up. The 300C remains big, bold and brashly American - and it makes no apologies for that. Throwing a torquey diesel under the bonnet simply adds to its allure.
