CITROEN’S Australian fleet is dominated by two-box designs with a lift-up tail-gate. Now there’s another one.

Based on the theory that a box is the most efficient way of maximising cabin space while minimizing exterior length, Citroen has produced some spacious – if not boxy – vehicles in recent years.

But sometimes buyers just don’t need the seven seats and warehouse storage features of the Grand C4 Picasso.

So with some deft cutting, Citroen has sliced 55mm off the Grand Picasso’s wheelbase, deleted two seats and erased the word “Grand” to create the city-sized C4 Picasso.

But what looks like a shrunken Grand C4 Picasso is not, Citroen Australia insists, an SUV or a people-mover or a wagon. It is presented as a hatch despite looking tall and distinctly bloated against more conventional rivals including the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.

For buyers wanting loads of space, this is one car with a big vacancy rate.
