THE Xsara is steered via a rack and pinion system with variable power assistance. The steering wheel adjusts for both height and reach. The VTR goes from lock to lock in 2.5 turns and has a 10.7-metre turning circle. The rear axle employs a system called passive rear steering, which is designed to rid the rear wheels of the tendency to steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels when loaded up, and reduces the risk of the car becoming unsettled during cornering. Compared to the previous coupe, which we did not get in Australia, this car's front track has been widened by 10mm and the rear by 12mm.
