Deepal S07 gains regulatory approval

CHINESE brand Deepal has received regulatory approval to go on sale Down Under, according to information published on the Road Vehicle Regulator (ROVER) website.

Manufactured in China by state-owned Changan, the Deepal S07 is available as a battery electric or range extender EV, the BEV variant approved for Australian sale. Local variants are indicated as offering a total system output of 160kW and 320Nm, driving the rear wheels via a single permanent synchronous motor.

Energy is supplied by a 66.8kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery pack which is said to offer up to 485km driving range (CLTC). A larger 79.9kWh battery pack is also rumoured to be available. Deepal quotes a 30-80 per cent charge time of 35 minutes and says the vehicle offers both V2L charging and regenerative braking capabilities.

The S07 SUV measures 4750mm in length, 1930mm in width, and 1625mm in height, and rides on a 2900mm wheelbase. The measurements give the Deepal S07 similar proportions to the Tesla Model Y.

ROVER data states the S07 weighs 2073kg (kerb), meaning it is 100kg lighter than the Model Y. It rides on a Macpherson strut front and multilink rear suspension arrangement and features four-wheel disc brakes and electric power steering.

Australian government documents show the S07 will arrive with features including 20-inch alloy wheels, augmented reality satellite navigation via head-up display, LED ambient cabin lighting, a wireless device charging pad, and a 15.6-inch infotainment array with 14-speaker sound and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.

In other markets, the S07 is generously equipped with LED headlights, a panoramic roof, acoustic windscreen, flush door handles, powered tailgate, powered heated and ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, dusk-sensing headlights, and dual-zone climate control. It is not yet known if these features will be offered on Australian-delivered models.

Chinese domestic market variants offer a comprehensive list of safety technologies, including adaptive cruise control, AEB, auto high beam, blind spot monitoring, drive fatigue monitoring, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.

GoAuto understand the Deepal S07 is available in six exterior colours – Comet White, Cosmic Yellow, Eclipse Black, Lunar Grey, Nebula Green, and Sunset Orange – and with Orange over Black upholstery.
