GOAUTO flagged the possible arrival of a hot version of the Dodge Caliber, which itself is now only months away from launch.
But some interesting details are emerging about the WRX-eating Caliber SRT-4 from this month's Chicago show.
According to Dodge, the SRT-4 will feature a turbocharged version of Chrysler’s new 2.4-litre DOHC four pumping out a massive 223kW at 6000rpm and 353Nm from 2000rpm, which it sends through a six-speed manual transmission to the - wait for it - front wheels.
Apparently, the Caliber’s optional all-wheel drive won’t be offered on the SRT-4, but we’re assured the SRT-4 does have a limited-slip differential and equal-length half shafts to control the power delivery.
Chrysler claims the SRT-4 can hit 100km/h in under six seconds.
Visually it sits 150mm lower than the normal Caliber on a sports suspension package with upgraded brakes and 19-inch alloys.
