First look: Magnum by name and nature

THE successful 300C's rowdier Dodge brother has undergone a facelift for 2007, with a new nose and a raft of trim and equipment changes.

A redesigned grille, bumper, headlights, bonnet and air intake are the main differences, while DaimlerChrysler has introduced more upmarket materials in an effort to brighten up the interior.

Fresh colours and improved equipment levels round out the revamp.

Unfortunately, Chrysler in Australia will not bring in this generation of the Dodge Magnum, citing its similarity to the 300C in general and the 300C SRT8 in particular. Nor is there any chance of the revised Dodge Viper arriving to these shores.

The left-hand-drive-only two-seater coupe or convertible sees its power output soar 67kW to 447kW (600hp in the old money), while torque is rated at 758Nm, courtesy of a bored out version of the Viper's aluminium V10 engine – up from 8.3 to 8.4 litres.

Other engine modifications include increased strength and rigidity, improved breathing, and better cooling capabilities, which also help cut emissions significantly.

From standstill, the 100km/h mark is reached in less than four seconds. Other changes include a bonnet redesign, new colours and trim, and greater customisation options.
