YESTERDAY'S Sydney motor show opening was the launch pad for the Pininfarina-designed Ferrari Superamerica – a convertible version of the 575 Maranello with a 375kW V12 engine.
It is a bold claim, but Ferrari reckons the Superamerica is the fastest convertible in the world. And with a top speed of 320km/h, it’s hard to dispute.
The Superamerica’s unique feature is the rotating glass roof, which folds backwards and rests flush with the bootlid. The entire operation takes less than 10 seconds. The use of electro-chromatic glass means the driver can control the level of light entering the cockpit.
Five different tint levels are available at the touch of a button, the glass going from dark to light in under a minute.
Importantly, too, boot capacity remains unchanged even if the roof is open.
