THERE can be no brand in the automotive world more famous than the iconic Prancing Horse, but in its long history the quintessential supercar-maker Ferrari has almost exclusively focused on uncompromised two-seater four-wheeled follies.

Occasional GT models have made a gesture to second-row seating, and in the case of the built to order 456 GT Venice, even a wagon boot, but when Ferrari announced it would create a genuine four-seater with a decent boot, it was met with some trepidation from the media and Tifosi alike.

Adding to the mutterings was the revelation the the FF would also be Ferrari's foray in to four-wheel drive with a unique all-paw system.

The Italian car-maker says its four-seat three-door coupe offers a level of versatility never before seen from the brand, allowing winter-road traction and room for four with luggage, but at no detriment to the unmistakable Ferrari recipe.

We took Ferrari's first 4x4 GT away for the weekend to see if it can uphold the Prancing Horse's tradition of uncompromised style, performance and exclusivity – plus two.
