Fiat 500 goes flyaway

‘FLYAWAY’ pricing is the latest marketing pitch to prop up sliding automotive sales, with Fiat Australia offering 100,000 Velocity points as well as free on-road costs with every Fiat 500 bought in April.

According to the Italian maker, driveaway prices this month will save Fiat 500 buyers at least $2950 in registration and statutory charges, but the Virgin promotion will also give them enough points for seven return trips from Sydney to Melbourne.

The driveaway/flyaway offer applies to the entire Fiat 500 range, which opens at $22,990 and comprises 51kW 1.2 and 74kW 1.4-litre petrol engines, plus the 55kW 1.3-litre turbo-diesel engine that powers Australia’s most economical car, the Fiat 500 JTD.

Bucking the industry trend, Fiat 500 sales remain four per cent up so far this year – despite a 32 per cent month-on-month decrease in March.

Fiat points out that 100,000 Velocity points will also ‘buy’ two return tickets from Sydney to Fiji, 10 flights from Melbourne to Sydney and two return tickets from Adelaide to Christchurch.

It says Velocity points can also be used to fly with Emirates to Dubai, V Australia to Los Angeles and Hawaiian Airlines to Honolulu.
