Ford is jumping into the burgeoning baby crossover craze head first.

After a tough 2013 in Australia, the company is keen to kick off 2014 with fresh, youthful and forward looking product like the BK EcoSport.

It’s a whole new market for the 111-year old car-maker, as well as a golden opportunity for a reversal of fortune, because the micro-SUV segment is growing rapidly with a host of new rivals.

These include the Holden Trax, Peugeot 2008, Nissan Trax, Nissan Juke and Suzuki S-Cross, while the Renault Captur and Honda ‘Vezel’ will arrive soon.

Made in India and engineered in Brazil, the Fiesta-based crossover has excellent dynamics and a sweet three-pot turbo engine, though its cabin spec and material quality is less commendable.
