ALL Explorers come with dual airbags, anti-lock brakes and outboard seatbelt lockers. Side airbags are offered as an option, while anti-submarining front seats are standard. The steering wheel frame is magnesium, which has superior crash energy absorption and noise/vibration suppression compared to steel. A chromed alloy "Smartbar" bull/roobar is airbag compatible and its upper structure has a large diameter round section tubing without sharp edges to minimise injury potential to pedestrians.
