FORD has revealed pricing for its new F-Series super-duty truck range that goes on sale next month.
The new F-Series will be offered in a range of configurations - including single, super and crew cabs - in XL and XLT specification levels.
Pricing starts at $52,400 for the F250 Single Cab XL chassis/cab with either a 5.4-litre petrol engine or 4.2-litre diesel.
The range-topper for now is the Single Cab XLT chassis/cab 7.3-litre diesel automatic - priced at $74,100.
Only the single cab F-Series will go on sale initially, with the super and crew cabs coming on stream within the next couple of months - but Ford is already taking orders for the latter two configurations.
Ford's rugged F-Series trucks have been around for 50 years and sold more than 26 million examples. Once a favourite of heavy haulers in Australia, Ford discontinued the range here in the early 1990s due to poor sales.
But that's now history with Ford Australia set to return the F-Series, in its most beefy form, to our showrooms. The Blue Oval says the F-Series range has two key attributes - size and power.
With a towing capacity of almost four tonnes (at full GVM), the Brazilian-built workhorse will be available in two and four-wheel drive variations.
"The super-duty F250 and F350 are designed for some pretty serious applications," Ford light commercial brand manager Kevin Lillie said.
"The F350 4WD diesel is rated to carry over 2500kg and produces a stump-pulling 678Nm of torque. Two pretty impressive numbers if you've got a big load to haul." Ford is at pains to point out the new F250 and F350 have been engineered for the right-hand drive market and are factory built - not converted from left-hand drive.
The company says the F-Series trucks were subjected to an extensive local testing program to ensure they met the unique conditions of the Australian market.
Ford expects many of the super-duty F-Series will find homes in agriculture, mining and service industries with heavy-duty towing and carrying requirements.
There are no plans at present to re-introduce the F150 range as Ford says the load capacity of the strong-selling Falcon ute is just as good, and on some models better than the former.
