THE Caprice matches the LTD in every area with the advantage of better handling from the independent rear suspension. Equipment is similar to the LTD with the bonus of a driver's airbag. The 3.8-litre V6 engine has enough power, 130kW, to equal the Ford's performance while using slightly less fuel.
HONDA LEGEND 4D SEDAN (1986-1991)
THE Legend combines advanced engineering and excellent build quality with a comprehensive equipment list which includes anti- lock brakes and a sunroof. Interior space is not in the LTD league but there is ample room for five adults. The 2.7-litre, V6 engine has a competitive power output of 130kW but lacks low- speed torque.
SAAB 9000 4D SEDAN (1990-1992)
THE Saab is surprisingly spacious and has similar equipment levels to the LTD, plus a sunroof. The twin cam, 16-valve, 2.3- litre engine produces 110kW so the performance does not match the LTD. The suspension is a good compromise between handling and comfort.
JAGUAR XJ6 4D SEDAN (1987-1992)
THE XJ6 represents the traditional British limousine with walnut and leather interior and a comprehensive equipment list. The 3.6- litre, twin cam six has an output of 141kW so the performance is comparable to the LTD. The ride and handling are at the top of the class. Check carefully before buying.
