THE XR6 ute is pure Falcon forward of the B-pillar, subscribing to the global "New Edge" styling theme evident in many of Ford's products. In fact the ute's body structure was developed alongside the sedan during the AU program. The quad lamp headlights of the XR6 are generally regarded as the best-looking Falcon front-end treatment and give the ute an aggressive, purposeful stance. The tonneau is a traditional design with external straps that attach to hooks along the side and rear of the tray - as opposed to Holden's new flush-fitting design introduced on the VU ute. From a distance, the alloy sports bar looks the goods and serves to continue the profile of the roof, integrating the cabin and tray design. Upon closer inspection, it is revealed as a purely cosmetic item, as the bars mount not to the chassis but just below the tray sides, as they often do when fitted as aftermarket items.
