A TOTALLY redesigned dashboard is the highlight of a comprehensive cabin facelift for Falcon.

Dominated by the new Interior Command Centre console, presented in its premium brushed aluminium form in the short-wheelbase flagship Ghia, the new dash is positioned closer to the driver than before, eliminating the need to stretch as in AU Falcons.

The premium presentation includes a high-series instrument panel, laptop-style colour TFT screen displaying satellite navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, six-CD Premium sound system and comprehensive trip computer functions.

The new instrument binnacle is more prominently hooded than before and houses chrome-rimmed gauges at Ghia's specification level. There is still no redline marked on the 7000rpm tacho on the left, while a 220km/h speedo resides to the right.

The tacho also contains a digital gear selection display and door open graphic, while an analogue clock at the top of the ICC is also unique to Fairmont Ghia.

While instrument illumination is green in low-series XT and Futuras, it is blue for XRs and white for Fairmont and Ghia.

Surrounding the driver is a new cross-hatched, light-coloured headlining similar to VY Commodore's but softer to touch, while woodgrain trim in the doors and dashboard split the colour scheme in half, with a dark finish complimenting the lighter lower section.

An uneven panel gap between the new doorskins and dash is the only blight on the otherwise brilliant new cabin presentation.

The new cabin layout comprises a number of ergonomic improvements, such as: the gearshift is moved 30mm closer to the driver, the ICC fascia is 40mm closer to the driver and the front seats are 12mm further inboard.
