THE Fiesta is the tiniest, least powerful and most affordable Ford on the market. It’s also the best-selling car … in the United Kingdom. In Australia it doesn’t enjoy the same sort of popularity.
In June for example, the Fiesta was ranked number one (as usual) in the UK sales chart, meanwhile here the Fiesta came in at 42.
Why the difference in take-up of the same car? Well, it could be to do with culture and our love of SUVs or brand loyalty and marketing or Japan and Korea’s strong market presence and foothold in Australia.
Whatever the reason, we reckon the new Fiesta is a stylish, well-designed, fun car to drive with a good choice of engines, and it represents good value for money.
The facelifted, seventh generation Fiesta went on sale in August last year, with the 1.5-litre 82kW/140Nm four-cylinder petrol model and the hardcore Fiesta ST with its 134kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbo four arriving first.
A few months later the Fiesta line-up was completed when the Sport arrived with its award-winning 1.0-litre 92kW/170Nm three-cylinder turbo petrol engine.
